Our Story: Four Decades in the Making
Our founder, John Lauro, didn’t stumble into IT he grew up in it.
It started when John was just 8 years old. His mom would drop him off after school at a local computer shop to keep him out of trouble. He was good with his hands and loved assembling things, so he started piecing together CSS clone computers back in 1983—installing motherboards, floppy drives, 10MB hard drives, memory, processors, and power supplies.
As John got older, his responsibilities grew. He moved from assembling machines to installing DOS, then Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups, and every version that followed. He learned servers and networking by shadowing experienced engineers, absorbing everything he could about how systems connect, communicate, and fail.
In June 2001, John founded Independent Network Consultants in Milford, Connecticut, with a simple mission: to help small businesses grow safely and sustainably in an ever-evolving digital world. Over 40 years later, that mission hasn’t changed—but the threats have. And so have we.
